In the Advent Calendar discussion below, Teresa asks:
I have one (very important) question … Who gets to open the drawer each day? If it were in my house there would be much frustration (read: hair pulling, hitting, screaming, yelling) from the child(ren) who did not get to open the drawer that day.
We take turns, in order from littlest to biggest — and yes, the big kids still like to have their turn. With 8 kids over 24 days, that means each will have three door-opening days. Except my oldest, who has willingly offered the honor of opening Baby Jesus’ door on the 24th to one of her younger siblings.
So far, no fights. We have always taken turns, so no one expects anything different and the younger ones seem to take their cues from the big kids.
Two year old Daniel opened on the first day and it was a star (there are lots of those). He placed it on the calendar and now refers to it as “Danny’s star.”
Earlier today, he even found our calendar in a catalog that came in the mail (Constructive Playthings carries it) and brought it to me, wild with excitement.
“Danny’s star! Danny’s star!” he squealed as he pointed to it in the photo. His first brush with fame!
