I can’t resist sharing another of Eamon’s precious pictures:
It’s a snail race.
For those of you who have never had the opportunity to watch a snail race, I can tell you these popular events are filled with breathless action. It takes about 15 minutes from start to finish (about 8 inches across a plastic lid). Sometimes the snails get a little off track and must be re-directed. Sometimes one snail tries to cheat by sliming his way over the top of the shell of another competitor. This is an automatic penalty.
Have I mentioned lately that I consider it a privilege to live here in this place–among snails and babies–where innocence and simple pleasures abound? Well, I do.
