Well, I’ll be darned. Oxiclean has gone and done what up until now I thought was perfectly impossible. Not only did it get the boys’ grass stained baseball clothes cleaner-than-they’ve-ever-been without a minute of scrubbing, it’s gone and done something even more amazing: It has awakened my inner laundry geek.
Suddenly, laundry is fun. It’s a game that I can win. Last night when the baby sat on a plate of pizza (don’t ask, okay? Just know that these kinds of things happen to some of us) I just laughed and shrugged. These days I find myself looking forward to soaking stains and then pulling fresh, stain-free, sweet-smelling clothes from the dryer. What a satisfying accomplishment!
To fully appreciate the miracle that has taken place here, you must understand that I have been nothing but a cynical curmudgeon about the laundry for years now. In fact, the last time I saw my inner laundry geek was about 7 years ago, when I was high on cloth diapers. I used to enjoy getting up early in the morning to wash a load and then hang them on the line where I could gaze at them in all their glorious whiteness, dazzling in the sunshine, throughout the day. It’s been a very long time since I gazed adoringly at the laundry.
But today? Today the sun is shining brightly. And I’ve got a mind to strip the beds.
