On this night eleven years ago, not just a baby was born. Our family was born. You will always be so precious to me because it was you who made me a mother. And it was you who made your papa a father. You made us a family.
When I look back on those early pictures, I have to wonder at the hospital staff that sent home a baby—a baby!—with those two nervous-looking little kids. We had no idea what we were doing, but you loved us anyway. Thank you for that. And thank you for all the long, endless nights where you patiently taught me the pains and the joys of what it means to be a Mama.
And thank you, too, for all the lessons you have yet to teach.
