Lenten Thought
We are not necessarily doubting that God will do the best for us; we are wondering how painful the best will turn out to be.

* I hide bottles of children’s vitamins, room deodorizer, and window cleaner.
* And yet still I must keep the Poison Control Center on speed dial.
* And the woman there recognizes my voice.
* Even though I try to disguise it.
* And I tell her this will never happen again.
* And she laughs at me.
(He’s going to be fine. It was just my good hand cream, after all. And his insides were probably just dry and scratchy like theoutsides of the rest of us.)

5 year old who acutely missed his screen time yesterday:
It’s okay if Lent lasts for 40 days, as long as not all of them are Ash Wednesday.

Because I think it applies to many who stop by here:
How does everyone approach fasting while breastfeeding?Sometimes I feel that I don’t even try while breastfeeding because Iknow that it is impossible to not eat between meals without gettingshaky. Maybe I could do a “modified” fast. What do other moms do?
Pregnant and/or nursing women are not required to fast. But forthose who would like to make a good faith effort anyway, there arenursing and pregnant-friendly kinds of fasts that won’t hurt you oryour baby.
While your body and your baby do need a continual source of nutrition, you canfast from sugar in your tea, from salt on your food, from butter onyour toast, from sweets, or from any other kind of indulgence youusually enjoy. These kinds of fasts not only don’t hurt, they make fora healthier diet for you and your baby.

Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, so let’s talk Lent. If you haven’t preparedmuch yet, don’t despair: There’s plenty of food for thought hereto get you started and I’ll be posting some Catholic family Lenten resources tomorrow. In the meantime, though, share what you and your family do (or don’t do!) to observe Lent. What are your plans for thisyear’s penitential season? Do you enforce personal sacrifices for your little ones? Do you emphasize family prayer? In what ways do you help yourself and your children prepare for the great feast of Easter?

‘24′ to cut back on torture scenes.
I won’t have to quit watching after all. Or periodically leavingthe room, anyway. Executive producer Howard Gordon is clear, though, that he is not caving to political pressure. It’s more the maritalkind.
“My wife says it’s too much,” he explains. Now there’s a good man.

Ambrose: How far would we have to drive to get to the water that’s teal colored? (He meant the Caribbean)

Juliette: Hmmmm, do they have any beaches in Hawaii?

Male Grown Up Who Shall Remain Nameless: I guess I just don’t see the point of going anywhere that doesn’t have good fishing.
Female Grown Up Who Shall Remain Nameless: Shopping. I think you must mean “good shopping.”

Thanks very much to all who voted for DanielleBean.com(or Daily Danielle, as the case may be) in this year’s Catholic BlogAwards. Given the huge number of nominees, this little blog did better than I expected. What I was most pleased to see, however, was long overdue recognition for Testosterhome in several categories and a fifth place showing for Minnesota Mom in the Best New Blog category. Way to go, ladies!
