Humiliation: Now Available in a Convenient 6-Pack

Last night I bought a 6-pack of beer. At the convenience store, Ipicked out my husband’s favorite brand and plunked it down on thecounter. The clerk, a rather young man, paused and held the scanner inmidair over the 6-pack as he sized me up.

“Do you have a valid ID?” he asked.

Be still my heart. My cheeks flushed with the flattery of it all.My eyes welled with thankful tears.
