November 21st, 2004 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into Your kingdom.” He replied to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” Luke 23:42-43 Lord, this week give us the grace we need to help You establish Your kingdom here on earth. Christ Our King! Your Kingdom Come! November 19th, 2004 Today is Friday. That means “Chore Day” here in the Bean household. After lessons, the kids have their weekly chore lists to complete and Mama has hers. I must admit, though, that I have been a bit lax lately in completing some of my weekly chore lists. Family illness, doctors’ appointments, and church obligations have all seemed more pressing than regular housework the past couple of Fridays. Today, however, I November 18th, 2004 This once-popular parental motto seems to have fallen out of favor among young parents in recent years. But I still hear it occasionally… mostly out of my own mouth. Just yesterday afternoon at the pediatrician’s office, though, I overheard a young mom tell her 2 year old son to stop jumping on the chairs in the waiting room. When he asked “Whyyyyyyyy?….” her very reasonable explanation was “Because I said November 16th, 2004 I’m glad someone is getting some use out of my badly-neglected herb garden this year. Inspired by an article she read in a crafting magazine, my 9 year old daughter Kateri spent the better part of this afternoon making “No-Sew Sachets” for everyone on her Christmas list. She had a bag of felt scraps, a pile of dried herbs, and newly-obtained permission to use her mother’s hot glue gun. After November 15th, 2004 I no longer walk–I waddle. I can’t retrieve toys from under the couch, I can’t sleep on my stomach, and eating anything like tacos or Kung Pao Chicken after 6:00 pm is a seriously bad idea. For those who don’t already know, I am five months pregnant with our seventh child and really feeling it. Being pregnant with my first, my second, even my third was such a breeze comparatively November 15th, 2004 I didn’t want to bring him. Going out by myself is such a rare luxury for me that when Dan asked me to run out to the store late Saturday afternoon, I was tempted to dash right out the door with nothing in tow but my purse. But Stephen spotted me, and being the presumptuous 3 year old that he is, he went for his coat. “Wait for me, Mama!” November 14th, 2004 You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives. Luke 21:17-19 Lord, in the coming week help us to be courageous in witnessing to Your Truth in the face of those who might persecute us for it. November 13th, 2004 After yesterday’s posting, I received a number of requests for my mom’s hot cocoa recipe. So, by popular demand, here it is: MOM’S HOT COCOA In a medium saucepan, combine: 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa dash of salt 1/3 cup water Stir well over medium heat until boiling. Boil 2 minutes. Remove from heat and add: 4 cups milk 3/4 tsp vanilla Heat through. Makes 6 servings. *For |
